Diran Varzhabedian AB1K
DIRAN VARZHABEDIAN, age 76, passed away on April 12, 2010 at Stamford Hospital. He was born in Jersey City, NJ on October 4, 1933, to the late Diran Varzhabedian Sr. and Rose Chalemian Varzhabedian. Mr. Varzhabedian worked for Conrail as an electrical engineer retiring after many years. Diran attended the Hackensack High School and the College of Engineering in Newark, NJ. He was scout master for the Troop 6 KT Murphy School for 14 years. He volunteered with Connecticut Retired & Senior Volunteer Programs ( R.S.V.P.) in Fairfield, and with Friendly Connections of Fairfield. He served in the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Army, U.S. National Guard, member of the MARS Society and taught computer skills for Adult Education in Stamford High School and Westhill High School. He also had three products in The Smithsonian Institute (NASA Lunar Orbiter, Hubbell Telescope and Hand Print Thermodynamic Monitor). Upon his retirement in 1998, he focused on getting a patent for his invention, the "Powerguard" which is a design for a rechargeable-battery backup power supply for the home that can power appliances during a blackout. After four years, he received recognition from the U.S. Patent Office giving him the patent for his invention. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Jo Varzhabedian of Stamford; a daughter, Kelly Clarke of Plains, Pa.; a son, Kevin Kelly of Bothell, Wash.; a daughter-in law, Debbie Kelly of Bothell, Wash.; and two grandsons, Matthew and Michael.
Family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, April 16th from 5 to 7 p.m. with a service at 6 p.m. in the Bosak Funeral Home, 453 Shippan Avenue, in Stamford. There will be a gravesite service on Saturday, April 17th at 10:30 a.m. in St. John's Cemetery in Darien. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in his memory to a charity of your choice. The family has entrusted the funeral arrangements to the Bosak Funeral Home, 453 Shippan Avenue, Stamford, CT.
