ARES LEVEL 1 ALERT,

BREAK ATTENTION ALL HAMS Hurricane BILL is currently an extremely dangerous Category 4 storm and has the potential to severely impact the Northeast US this weekend. Depending on the actual track, we could really get clobbered -- or just have some choppy surf -- it is too early to tell. After consulting with the Section Manager Betsey K1EIC and the Skywarn DEC Steve K1SJW, I have to decided to bring CT ARES to a Level 1 Alert effective at 1800 (6:00 PM) EDT on Friday, 21 Aug 09. All DECs should notify ARES members in their Region of this status change and ensure they are prepared for possible activation. Now is the time to be sure batteries are charged, radios are programmed, generators are fueled. etc. Based on the predicted storm track, the most likely area to feel the strongest effects of BILL is Southeastern Connecticut (i.e., Region 4 South). All Regions should be ready to provide assistance where needed. I will keep you posted as the situation develops. 73, Wayne N1CLV Section Emergency Coordinator CT ARES

My best regards always,
Allan, NN1H
DEC - CTARES Region One
