For what it's worth I operated EI4HQ/P from IO63vg (Dundrum, Dublin) for a
while (about 3 hours) on Saturday & Sunday on 40 & 20m racking up 56 qsos.
Only near European stations & a smattering of eastern Europe stations
worked, nothing more exotic heard. Conditions weren't great.
It was "interesting" to hear passing Luas trams on 40m - as they approached
a rushing sound like a big wave rolling in off the ocean would build,
peaking at S9+10dB over as the tram passed before fading again. The line was
directly behind the house where I was operating - I wonder how far away that
effect can be heard...
Station:
- FT-817ND (5w) bhi DSP board & 500Hz cw filter fitted (both "options" an
absolute must in the 817. Once they are, it's a brillant little rig)
- 20m gp
- 40m end fed dipole (see AA5TB) at 5m
- Aino-Micro AM 12-4.2 battery (4.2ah) - this is a great battery for
/QRP /P operations. It's small, sealed and will run the FT-817 for about 7
hours of S&P operating
- Homebrew key
- Netbook running HRD
I'll be doing a number of QRP /P operations between now and end September.
Next up is Dingle on 18-19 June and F/EI4HQ during July.
