[Collins] {Collins} QRN problem

Hi Mike, I'm also in Florida, very, very dry. Our cows have almost no grass.
As far as the QRN, purchase the RFI book sold by the ARRL, it's a good investment. I've been fighting power-line noise for decades. Long before there was the internet or books on the subject.
The eHam site also has a specific Forum for RFI.
A lot of the time, during very dry weather, the old wood poles shrink. This causes the mechanical hardware to become loose and you have arcing between nuts, washers, metal support arms, etc,

A utility crew usually tightens the hardware on the entire pole. This really helps.

regards,

Mike
Have you tried a newer rig with dsp?
When you do you will give the Collins or any vintage tube gear a BIG HUG!
QRN has been particularly bad the last few weeks.
A couple nights ago on 75m the S line and Drake 4 line were the only rigs
you could listen to in my shack without serious ear discomfort.
For some things analog and tubes are just better. IMHO

Subject: {Collins} QRN problem

I'm having a problem with QRN with noise levels at S-9 or greater. It has
been that way for the past few weeks. I have this problem with my 75S-3B
and also with my KWM-2A as well. I've checked my ground system, my cables,
and my antennas and all seems right.

Here in Florida it has been dry with little to no rainfall for over a month
and I'm wondering if this is contributing to the problem? I've also noticed
that once the sun goes down, the noise level drops a few S units but still a
problem.

Is this a problem with Collins rigs?

As always, any thoughts or suggestions on this matter would be greatly
appreciated.
