[Collins] 75A-3 Question

A few wild guesses after looking at the 75A-3 manual that I have.
Could have been a product detector epoxied in place. Could plug into the
NBFM module detector.
Someone wanted to remove the PTO without taking the dial drive apart,
partly from lacking Bristol spline wrenches.
Someone wanted to remove the PTO cover without removing the PTO to
service parts or tweak the calibration. Since the PTO hangs through a
big notch in the chassis, extending the notch would be necessary to get
the cover off and on without removing the PTO. Seems like chewing out a
hunk of chassis would be more work than taking the drive and dial apart
and finding power to run the PTO on the work bench for testing outside
the radio.
