[Collins] 516F-2 choke replacement source

Greetings,

The recent thread on sources for L1 and L2, and the discussion on voltage
breakdown ratings prompted me to nose around some more. New to me was the
fact that Freed Transformer became part of Electronic Transformer
Corporation (ETC), Paterson NJ, about 15 years ago. Well, ETC has all of the
original Freed designs and produces them to order. With respect to the
516F-2, they told me that the original Freed part number 37256, Collins P/N
668-0300-00 (NSN 5950-00-083-1622) is in their archive and is easily
produced again - just send money. Just for grins, I asked for a quote on 10
pieces. They came back with $180 per unit, 3-4 weeks ARO. Before you choke,
this is for the whole enchilada, the "dual reactor" assembly consisting of
L1 AND L2 preassembled with all new stack hardware, built and tested to
original specs, just like they used to sell it to Collins and the Federal
Government.

They did tell me that the breakdown voltage test requirement, or dielectric
breakdown strength test potential used was 60 Hz @ 3000 VRMS, yes, RMS. The
normal mode, or induced test potential was 400 VRMS, 200 Hz.

I did not inquire about smaller or larger quantities, or separate pieces,
i.e., just L1 or L2. I am just wondering if there might be interest in a
cooperative purchase? Cheers.

Bob, KF6BC
