If this is a battery backed RAM, the replacement has a chance of
working. Being faster is not a problem. You may need to do a master
reset to get the new memory initialized. Its been long enough for the
internal chip battery to have run down. It might be possible to diode
gate an external 4.5 volt stack of NiCad or silver cells to the Vcc pin
of the existing chip. That is sure to be workable if a power up reset
makes the radio work so long as power never fails.
