[Collins] Collins nomenclature

I believe the 30L1 started off as a technical exercise
by George Senti (but anyone correct me if I'm wrong).
It started off essentially as a "garage project"
before Art got a hold of it and put it into
production. I suspect there wasn't that much
development cost on the part of Collins Radio since it
essentially was a private project by a Collins
engineer. A great article has been written up in ER
about this. Using essentially off the shelf parts to
add a gallon to the S-line. I think the 30S1 may have
been created for mostly military usage. I don't think
that the 30L1 could do some of the continuous military
duty modes like RTTY so the 30S1 was born. If you
haven't noticed, that 4CX1000 looks like it could loaf
along at 1KW key down so I think it was designed for
that market. JMHO. Cal.
