While having a GPR-90 in the shack at the same time as the 51J4 and r-388 I  
found that the GPR-90 had much more comfortable audio. After looking at the  
design of each I found the GPR-90 used a little inverse feedback from the  
secondary winding of the output xmfr to cathode of the !st audio  amp.     So 
while servicing the 51J  I got out the  decade resistor box out and played around. 
    Installing a  225 k ohm , 1/2 watt resistor  satisfied  me enough that I 
soon after  I parted with my  GPR-90  to enjoy the comfortable AM sound of  
the 51J .  
  I used a standard full range 8" speaker ( NC-300 design) on  each.
