To Glen's point.
This weekend I was installing light fixtures in a newly renovated bathroom.
I shut off the light switch to kill the circuit and as a precaution shorted
the hot side to ground, the GFI tripped (HUH?)
I got a lamp and checked the black against the white, they were dead but
both were HOT to the safety ground!!!
I killed the circuit at the box and called the electrician back to fix the
mess.
NEVER trust house wiring!!!!

In my shack, every piece of radio gear is connected to an Earth ground buss.
On moving or installing a box, the ground is connected first, then the AC
line is connected.
