[Collins] 51S-1...dial drag or no?

Indeed I have reviewed the Optic site .. and they have been commended on
their efforts.. But to the root issue of this, there is no difference in
application for an original factory weighted knob, it will simply work on
any of the S-line equipment pieces, including the 51s-1.. at one time I had
quite a few weight kits and these required the removal of the plastic skirt
away from the main body [ this is all related only to finger hole style
tuning knobs ] as the weight was made, it's center was relieved and by
design would work on either the s-line pieces, or the 51s-1, where the
problem is the housing that protrudes beyond the front panel, unlike the
sline pieces , where only the shaft extends out past the normal escutcheon..
Apparently the photo that is shown in the Optic web site is then still their
early first design, because from appearance the center area does not show to
be relieved, where in their revision they have included a center area large
enough to accommodate the bearing housing used by the 51s-1..
But to summarize, I maintain that factory fingerhole knobs, had no
limitations or restrictions for applicability between any s-line piece..
but I have certainly enjoyed the discussion, and as usual go away with a bit
more insight into these sets and what all we can look forward to, to keep
them going for the foreseeable future, if we don't promote competent high
quality outside reproduction sources, the bright future for these sets looks
dim.. for radios that range from 44 to 29 years since being produced, we
seem to be doing good ..
thanx mac/mc
