[Collins] Which AM transmitter to go with S-line?

Another possibility for AM--

This sounds like heresy, OK, (well it is!) but has anyone ever considered
doing a mod to the 32S tx for AM? Has anyone ever actually done it?
It should be possible to do a 'clip on' mod such that it's easily removed
to restore original condition. Not as nice as a separate plate modulated
setup, but no extra space taken up with additional equipment.

> Been pondering this as I sat looking at my S-line. I used to have a
32V-75A combo but the dang things were a bit too big. I thought that it
would be great had Collins made an plate modulated AM transmitter to go with
the S-line but alas, I don't think they did. So, my query is has anyone else
filled that gap by putting a "like" AM xmtr with their S-line? Here's my
candidate: the EF Johnson Ranger II. It has 60's vintage styling which I
think is (pardon the pun) in line with the S-line. One can retain their
S-line for sideband/cw work and use their "standby" 51S1 to work AM with the
Ranger. Got both a 30L1 and a 30S1? Use the latter for the S-line and the
former with the Ranger/51S1 setup. Just a thought. What do you think?
Thanks. Cal, n6KYR.
