It seems the best solution is of course adjusting the rear bearing, but
since I had disassembled the whole thing I cleaned out all the old grease
put a coating of new grease on and then adjusted the rear bearing for a
smooth feel. It works fine now. I am going through this radio now and will
post some pictures of various stages...Thanks for the input from everyone
