Greetings to all,
I have just finished restoring a Collins 75A-3 receiver (SR# 698).
General overall appearance is very good. This receiver will never be 10
because of some slight staining on the chassis top. The front panel is near
perfect. The only imperfection is a slight hairline crack on the lower part
of the bezel. I have not refinished the case as this would add about $300
to the cost of restoration. A good cleaning and over sprayed with St James
Grey might be adequate. This receiver is equipped with the Collins 4/1 gear
reduction and skirted knob that became an option for this receiver when it
became standard on the 75A-4.
Electrically, this receiver is excellent, far above average because
it has the Dovetron product dictator mod installed in the NBFM socket. The
Dovetron Voltage Doubler AGC mod has also been done. SSB reception is an
absolute pleasure, considering the dials extreme accuracy, product detector,
and superb AGC system. You will never touch the RF gain control no matter
how strong the signal is. The PTO was completely overhauled and lubricated.
With one of the heavy, weighted knobs installed, the dial will spin nearly
its entire length.
I am offering this receiver for $800, plus packing, insurance, and
shipping from Houston. This includes standard 3.1 KHz mechanical filter and
excellent manual re-pro. If you want the case refinished, I will do it, but
that will add considerably to the cost and delay shipment. For payment in
advance, I will deliver this receiver to Dayton. That would allow plenty of
time to refinish the case. Pictures are, of course, available, if you are
seriously interested.
