Hi Paul... the primary distinction between ceramic discs and orange-drop/et
al is stability (vs temp.) I THOUGHT the answer to your question involved a
nearly indignant: "no way!!!" But, way back when I learned about the
dangers/problems associated with black beauties/etc. I checked my best
SP-600-JX-17 and found it has ORIGINAL equipment ceramic discs everywhere
you would expect something like an orange drop. Including the RF-turret.
But personally, I'd use either 630V (or more) orange-drops or the smaller,
square, polycarbonate caps. I don't care how it looks-just how it works...
and if I was going to go to all that trouble, I'd want it to be as good as
possible, for as long as possible-and whether it's utterly rational or
not-I trust orange-drops and polycarbonate caps more than discs.
And about the oil-filled cap(s)... absolutely.
