Probably wasn't satisfied with the drive from a low impedance microphone
so took out the resistor to raise the gain. Or else they weren't
satisfied with mere clipping from over driving with an amplified CB
microphone and took out the cathode resistor to make the watt meter show
100 watts on voice. All of the power splatter...

The original Collins Yellow book schematic for the 32S1 shows a 1 meg
grid resistor, and a 680 cathode resistor with no bypass.
