[Collins] Broken 51J-4 tuning slug question

Glue it. Epoxy or super glue. make sure its straight. Don't glue it to
the coil form. There's also been a glue for magnetic cores from GC. It
should work too. Its probably a powdered iron matrix in a resin to begin
with so a little more glue gap won't have a significant effect.

There may be replacements around, depends on its characteristics. It
might be similar or the same as some parts for the R-390, though I don't
have 51J-4 parts information.
