Leaky AGC bypass capacitors will make a receiver overload on string
signals because they prevent the high impedance AGC circuit from
working. Leaky screen bypass capacitors will make a receiver overload
because they reduce the gain of each stage and reduce to power level of
the last IF stages. A leaky coupling capacitor from audio driver plate
to audio output tube grid can cause the output tube to draw excessive
current and add to distortion.

Orange drops are immensely better than the black beauties ever were and
a few orders of magnitude better for leakage than aged black beauties
ever will.

Many receivers before the S-line could only copy SSB with the RF gain
reduced because the AGC depended too much on carrier.
