I think I pulled a HVB type fuse from a tugboat transmitter that I
finished disassembling last week. But its deep in a sack of small parts
at the moment and of unknown quality.

As for copper wire, #40 is the smallest available as enameled wire (at
least sort of commonly) its about .0034" diameter and according to the
table in Radiotron copper wire that size fuses at 2 amps. It takes
something smaller about .0021" diameter to fuse at 1 amp. That's about
#44. #40 has a breaking strength of about 7 ounces, slightly less than
the friction across my index finger when winding coils.

The smallest wire in braid is probably about #36 because the smaller
sizes are such a bitch to handle. Looking in an Allied catalog, I see
#32 stranded has 7 strands of #40. Still too big for a 1 amp fuse.

I just called Electronic Supply of Ames. The Buss HVB-1 is shown as a
standard stock item at Buss. I have a quote of: $9.24 each in quantities
of 1 to 39. 40 is carton quantity. About $7.70 each in carton
quantities. Contact Dan at: [email protected] or (515)232-7020. No
minimum order at Electronic Supply of Ames. Those fuses are NOT in stock
at Electronic Supply but can be had.
