I have used "L" and my current tuner is a classic "T" type. There was a
tuner comparison article in QST a few years ago. The article looked at
losses, matching range, harmonic supression.
Also, in May 2002 QST there is an interesting (3 part) article on a 2KW
auto-tuner. The tuner is a "new" design and the development is documented
in the article. I'm looking at it (sans the auto components) as a
replacement for my T-match tuner.
Building a tuner is the way to go. It will cost less than a commercial
model and you can use quality HV components.
