[Collins] vfo/ osc connecting cables

Actually, Belden RG58A/U has the stranded center
conductor and is VERY flexible. The difference
between RG58A/U and RG58C/U used to be that the C/U
used a non-contaminating outer jacket and the A/U had
a contaminating outer jacket (would go bad if exposed
to the weather after less longer period of time than
C/U). However, the Belden RG58A/U coax now has a
non-contaminating outer jacket. But, since the
interconnect cables are not exposed to the weather, it
doesn't make much difference.

Also, Radio Shack stores are primarily stocking RG58/U
(solid conductor) and not the stranded center
conductor anymore. The shield on it is "OK", but the
cable is extremely "stiff". It also has a second
"clear" coat added to the black outer sheath which
really makes it stiff! You can buy much better RG58
type coax for about the same money as from Radio
Shack.

I use Belden RG58A/U on the cable kits that I
manufacture. My supplier only stocks Belden RG58/U
(solid center conductor) and Belden RG58A/U (stranded
center conductor) for the RG58 family. They do stock
all sorts of Heliax, larger (i.e. RG-213/U) coax, etc.
 The solid-center conductor RG58/U runs 18 cents a
foot in 500 foot reels and the stranded RG58A/U runs
21 cents a foot in 500 foot reels. In 1000 foot reels
it gets a slight bit cheaper (2 or 3 cents a foot
less).

58C/U has a stranded center conductor. Don't buy it
at Radio Shack, theirs has too little shield. The but
RG-58C/U is the only one that has the desirable
flexible center conductor.
