[Collins] Radios in checked bags

Dear friends
just would like to share my experience in packing a Kenwood
TS-140 into my checked luggage. Took it from Zurich to Singapore
and to Sydney and back (this Jan/Feb). Also included a bag with
the antenna rods and mil type insulator. No problems even though
I know that at Zurich airport they X-ray all checked bags (don't
know about the other places). On the way back unfortunately
packed the insulator in the hand luggage and had to open the bag
in Sydney and Singapore. So it looks like a good idea to pack
radios and stuff away in the checked bags. I agree with all the
inspections and searches (had to take off my army boots in
Zurich...) and just hope they really X-ray those checked bags...

Interesting note even more off topic: Kodak and others remind us
that X-ray machines for checked baggage are stronger and not
film safe! (put my films into my old lead lined box I used in
the old days - was ok).

Thanks for the bandwidth and have a good day
Ulrich, hb9aik - vk6bqd
