It's great news that your situation was handled the way it was!  The security 
inspectors saw your unusual communications equipment, investigated, and when 
satisfied allowed you to go on your way.  Excellent.  My concern would have 
been if they had allowed you to proceed without understanding the equipment 
and situation.

Recently, I've traveled to South America, Europe and Asia on business.  I 
didn't always feel that inspections were adequate to assure safety.

They can search me and my baggage to whatever extent they feel appropriate 
and hopefully they will search everyone else as well.
