Hello Folks,
Well, the results of my question about the recent sales of Collins equipment
are in.
It is the general opinion that the majority of the old timers like myself
are dying off and a lot is coming from estate sales. A lot of the old
timers don't want to leave their spouses with the old equipment to sell so
they are having "pre final sales". Some of the old timers are finding it
difficult to make the necessary repairs to the older equipment and their
hands and fingers do not lend theirselves to tuning up the rigs.
It seems that a lot of the younger hams just do not want to mess with
something that is not 'plug and pray" like computers.
Some of the people felt that it was tied to the times and collectors ware
wanting to put their money in other areas such as gold and silver.
Several people cited employment loss and health reasons.
All in all, it is happening for whatever reason.
