Are you using a fast blow fuse where a slow blow fuse is required? Some
compact transformer cores do take a slug of current for the first cycle
because they remember the last peak they saw and usually its the
opposite polarity of what comes when reenergized. You probably want MDL
or MDQ instead of AGC, ABC, or AGX fuse. You might want to consider a
relay or thermistor operated surge limiter. You might want to consider a
bucking transformer so your input voltage to the radio is 115 instead of
132 volts.
