[Collins] Interesting

Merle, if I were to determine whether or not Collins prices have peaked, I
would speculate that so too has the stock market. We are going through a
cycle of uncerainity and tight money. Once we get through this economic
cycle, AND WE WILL, Collins prices and, hopefully, my sagging mutal funds
will spurt upward.

It is always about supply and demand. When there were lots of KWM-2's and
75A-4's for sale on the open market, i.e., hamfests, ham radio trader nets,
etc. back in the 80's, Collins prices were rather low as compared to today
when there is just so much of this stuff to go around. I can remember when
the price of used mid-year Corvette was a little over $2,000 - well, you
know that a set of hubcaps for this car in nice condition can bring upward
of $1,000. I bought my 65 Corvette in 1970 for $2,400 and sold it last year
for over $20,000. Same is true for railroad watches, Leica camera, etc.

And, now you know the rest of the story. Enjoy your Collins.

Hello to all..

Was reading an E-mail on one of the reflectors from a fellow who stated that
he was under the impression that the Collins equipment had reached it's
peak, Collins things were not moving well, also the prices were
dropping??..

The more I thought about this made me wonder if this has come to pass i.e. I
had a Collins manual for a 62S-1 transceiver up for sale. A copy of this
manual was sent to me directly from Collins in the 60's along with a letter
that stated that they did not have the original Collins Manual in stock and
apologized for sending me a copy of the 62S-1 manual, they hoped it would be
satisfactory. All of this was at no charge from Collins. ( Can't beat their
PR efforts ! ) Anyway the manual did not sell,( and I am not trying to sell
it here), but I would have thought that the letter from Collins would have
been a nice catch for some of these collectors not to mention the manual.

My point being, maybe the fellow who stated that Collins had reached it's
peak knew what he was talking about??.. Personally I doubt it myself !
