Hi Pat,
I personally don't see a need for an "emergency" subject unless there =
really is a true "emergency". And if that were the case, how many folks =
would be on the reflectors? =20
CW Net:
Not interested but might participate on a limited basis. I have always =
enjoyed CW as a communication mode, but since being away from the hobby =
for almost 10 years and just recently getting back into it, my code =
speed has suffered. I was once able to copy up to about 55 wpm. I can =
still handle 20 or so, but get "antsy" if it gets too slow. That's just =
my opinion. =20
PSK31: =20
Yes, I am active. You don't need a laptop. Any computer with a =
soundcard will do the trick. I run PSK31 with my Gateway and a Yaesu =
FT-920. I am at a loss as to why you say that PSK is a fun mode as long =
as you stay off of 20 meters. I operate PSK on 20 meters all the time =
and have no problems. Less QRM on PSK frequency (14.070.15) than other =
SSB frequencies. =20
MFSK/MFSK16:
Not sure if there is a difference. I operate MFSK all the time =
(14.080.15), and use only one program for all the modes (PSK, MFSK, =
QPSK, SSTV, RTTY, Throb, Hellscrhreiber, etc., etc.). It's called MixW =
2.02, and is not free. It sells for $50 (and all future upgrades are =
free), after you try it out for 2 weeks (the trial is a full version). =
After 2 weeks if you don't register it, it quits working. But believe =
me, it's worth the $50, because it's the only one that will do "all" the =
modes without having a different program for each mode. Sure, the =
others are free, but why have 20 programs for 20 modes when one will do =
it all? Some digital modes are better for week signal conditions that =
others, so having the ability to change from PSK to MFSK or Throb is a =
definite plus, and with MixW it's an easy thing to do. =20
Hope my comments will help, Pat. =20
73,
Dick
