In looking at the list of subjects that this reflector will cover I
notice and entry for Emergency. With the number of reflectors devoted to
that subject (ARESCO being the state reflector and many districts having
their own) do we want to have that as one of the subjects we discuss?
On the plus side is that during an emergency any mode/method is valid
and a posting here to let everyone know where to find information would
be great regardless of which way this reflector goes. To the minus is
the argument (I hate to use that word on a reflector) that a discussion
here could possibly detract from content on a reflector designated for
that subject.
Just a thought. What would you like to see?
New subject: Slow speed CW
Is anyone interested in starting (or perpetuating an existing - that I
don't know about) a slow speed CW "gathering"? There are "slow speed"
nets going but most tend to be run by Extra class operators that got
their Extra after passing 20 wpm thus the speed migrates to 18 or so -
in a hurry. We could easily start (providing there is enough interest)
a group if there is interest (let's hold details unless there is interest).
PSK31:
How many people do PSK31? It is a fun mode (as long as you stay off of
20M) that is easy to get started in IF you have a laptop with a sound
card installed.
MFSK16:
Anyone doing MFSK16? Uses the same equipment as PSK31 but with
different software (available on the internet for a free download).
Kit building:
Anyone notice that RadioShack.com on south Broadway in Denver is
closing? I got a memory keyer kit with matching enclosure for $45
rather than the retail of $85. Seems to work fine. Anyone else doing kits?
Packet/APRS:
While a detailed discussion on APRS could easily be held on the APRS
reflector, is anyone getting started on APRS? Do we have someone/anyone
starting on Packet?
Antennas:
Anyone doing work on NVIS or other local coverage antennas?
I know one guy that has been licensed for about two or three years that
swore 2M had lousy coverage. Then he replaced the Rat Shack 2M mag-mount
with a gain antenna with a good ground. What a difference.
