Hi Pat,

The technique that I could (and should) have used was to key and quickly
say "Let's pause there." and unkey. This would have let me know that
there was a double
Agreed. So why shouldn't check-ins be encouraged to do the same? :-)

BTW, what do you think about changing the repeater's look and feel during
nets? I'm thinking that if the courtesy beep and dropout time were extended,
users wouldn't wait for the repeater to drop before transmitting, and things might
go faster (there's really no benefit in waiting for the repeater to drop; the
timeout timer resets at the courtesy beep).

Remember the tornado watch nets on RMRL's 146.94 machine? The repeater stayed
up most of the time, and when it did drop, it sent a quick CW "WX" beforehand
to let new listeners know there was a weather net in progress.

Fortunately, our problems are no more serious than the ones we're kicking
around here... at least until someone tosses a cigarette butt in this area! My
neighbors and I are surrounded by hundreds of acres of really dry, really tall
cheat grass...

73,
Bob
