Hello Allan,
Rain gutter antennas are a classic, and get mention in several antenna
books. The key seems to be making sure all the gutter/down-spout
segments are solidly bonded together with low inductance braid or
whatever. Otherwise you can end up with all kinds of problems, RFI and
TVI especially. You need a good antenna tuner also. Keep in mind the
rules for RF exposure. Modest power levels should be no problem. Other
respondents seem to do quite well at QRP levels.
