Several years ago I talked to a guy who had a Clegg Cruiser which he called
a converter. I asked Ed Clegg
W2LOY about it and he told me there were a number of Clegg companies and he
could not place it. Ed passed away soon afterward and I did not think
anymore about the converter.
Well, I was researching a project for another ham and low and behold on Page
161 Of the December 1967 QST I found an ad for the Clegg cruiser. The ad
calls it a VHF/SSB transmitting receiving converter. Seems like this is
really a transverter for use with any transmitter or transceiver. The
Cruiser VI (For 6)takes 14 mcs input, the Cruiser II (for 2) also takes 14
mcs input. The Cruiser IIA (2 meters) uses 10 meter input. Rated at 125W
PEP + AM and CW.
The Clegg name at that time was E.T. Clegg Associates, Inc.
Anyone ever seen any of these units?
