Fred -

Thanks very much for the info. I did think it would be okay to have
both antennae hooked up but then saw in the manual where it said not
to do this as it would make loading difficult since the circuit is
shared by both 6 and 2. So that is one pitfall I managed to avoid,
although it seems to say 'pre-tune the unit on low power, then attach
the antenna' in so many words. Weird.

I did find one problem I created, having removed the front panel for
cleaning and bleaching (it was terribly yellowed), I did not get the
Audio/CW knob back on correctly. On the eariler Climaster version (I
have a manual copy, no transmitter) it clearly shows the CW position
at the bottom left, where you would expect it to click into audio
off/CW. On the newer models, CW appears over at the bottom right side.
It was only after viewing my 'project set' with the knobs untouched
that I noticed the audio knob spins past the bottom position and back
to CW in a ccw rotation, then clicks into the audio-off/CW position. I
had been turning the knob clockwise to CW instead of full ccw.

However, even after correcting this problem and retuning, I seem to
only get 40 watts out or so, into a dummy load. I have to confess, I
did not check the tubes while I had the thing torn apart for cleaning
and restoration. Something to do I guess, before getting too excited
about the power output.

I'm curious about the coupling between the driver tube and PA tube -
it is done through a wire placed in close proximity to both tubes? I
noticed one RF deck had the wire bent vertically alongside the driver
tube, the other was horizontal. Both are horizontal along the side of
the 4X150.

Also noticed that the high s/n set has different load and tune caps in
place than the slightly older deck. It also has a large doorknob-style
cap attached to one of the posts on the plate tuning cap. Do any of
your units have this, or was it more likely added by a former owner? I
wondered if perhaps Ed added some capacitance to help deal with the
arcing problems.

Other little oddities too, like 3H11 ballast tubes in one mod deck and
3H7s in the other, both silkscreened onto the chassis.

Do any of your units have PTT? This one does, obviously a mod but a
very good one. I wonder if this was a popular mod floating around at
the time? Seems to be self-contained in a small Budbox under the
PS/mod deck chassis.

Had to undo some mods on the Interceptor, but I won't get into that
now. Sure works well with the Interceptor Allbander, though - I was
and am impressed!
