Hi Greg,
I have been using my Zeus weekly for about 10 years plus and have not
had many problems with this grand old work horse.
I suggest that you pull V-301 12AT7 and retest for the problem.
Next if needed pull the V-302 6BX7 and retest.
These steps will isolate all the pre amp stages. If the hum goes away, and it
should, then you will know what ever is causing the problem is more toward
the microphone end.
The resistor and capacitor you were looking at are part of the clamp tube circuit
to the screen of the final. That circuit protects the final tube from self destruction
if the drive to the final stops when the high voltage is on. If you have the final
working ok in CW then the clamp tube circuit must be doing its job.
Please let me know if I can help further and also what you discover.

Subject: [Clegg] Zeus problems
Hey gang,
I got my Zeus on the air the other night testing it, well not on the air,
but into a dummy load. It loads up fine and every thing, but soon as I
switch from CW to AM I get a bad humming, and if I speak into the mic I can
hear it ring in the modulation transformer. That is where the hum is located
too. I have been looking at the power supply/modulator diagram, and I am not
sure what it could be. I was thinking it might be the 1600v cap that is in
parallel with a large wattage resistor that goes to the center tap of the
modulator transformer, but not real sure. Anyone else have any ideas?
