Hi Stu -

I agree 100% with your statement below. I get better audio reports from the
critical listeners out there when I'm using a 444 over the D-104s. (I
somehow accumulated at least a few of each!) This is with my 100V (on AM and
SSB) and also my 32V-2. Could be just that my voice is better suited to it.
The D-104 sounds great also but the 444 beats it.

I think the whole secret is in the large capture area (large diaphragm) that
both of these mics have. Another plus with the 444 is that the elements
don't go bad. I'm still using my old 444 from my high school days and now
I'm 54!

Lastly, at the risk of sounding like a Shure commercial, the prices on 444s
are dirt cheap. I got a nice one at a local fest this past October for $10
with no haggling and this was late in the morning and with good wx!

(The CE Reflector is still alive -- We're all just a bunch of lurkers!)

 >>> I would also recommend trying a Shure 444 with the 100V based on the
comparisons I have run and consistent reports of smoother quality with the
444 over the D-104.
