Hi Paul,
Yep, I loved my GSB1 and could be interested in swapping you out of yours
because
mine has been in storage and I know not only the circuitry needs refurbishing
but the cabinet is rusting (darn it!)....
Maybe my success with such good audio was because I fed a good signal into
it....
I used my HQ-129-X by tapping into the last I.F. stage with a small co-ax out
to the input of the GSB1....Also tapped into the plate ckt of the 1st I.F.
with a co-ax out to an oscilloscope, a 3" Philco scope which has a passband
up to 750 kcs, so the 455 Kcs of the I.F. went thru beautifully - could watch
signals coming in as well as my own signal going out....
Maybe you have already read my msg about some of the 6 Meter AM Air Force
Mars members who couldn't understand what I saw in that "awful Donald Duck"
SSB!
They had only heard SSB on the old H.F. Communications receivers....No big
wonder! Anyway, several of them wanted to hear my SSB and came out one
afternoon. I happened to be in a roundtable on 75 meters and when they
arrived, I turned the gain down and they all gathered around my rig....After
greetings were exchanged, they were anxious to hear SSB. Well, I turned the
gain back up and said , There it is!"....They said no that's AM!! I said, "No
you are listening to SSB on a proper receiving system". They were not
convinced until I reached over and flipped the "AM-SSB" switch to AM....,
then back to SSB. I thought their eyes were going to pop out of their heads!!
Hi!
I am working towards getting my old set-up back up and running - The 100V
with a D-104 Astatic mike, the 600L, the HQ-129-X rcvr, GSB1 ssb adapter to
the separate loudspeaker (8") that was part of the HQ-129-X....
Also, (and this is important) I had gone thru the rcvr and changed the
by-pass condensers along the AGC line to smaller values to speed up recovery
time. I thing they were .05's which I changed to .01's....Additionally, I
incorporated "Audio driven
AGC"....A rock-crushing signal just outside the passband would lower the
gain with conventional AGC system....But, with Audio Driven AGC, nothing but
what is being heard will affect the AGC....Can't be beat!
Sorry Paul, didn't mean to get strung out like this.Hi! But, try it and
you'll swear by it I'm sure....
73,
Ken....N5CM....NNN0FKQ....
