Greetings Fellow Amateur Radio Enthusiasts
I just received a telephone call from Art (AA3RT) who advises that the
Historic La Plata Train Station is an approved location for our use
during Field Day 2007. Art spoke with Mrs. Maguire earlier today and she
is happy to allow our use and is hopeful of greater exposure and
attention toward to Train Station.
Obviously, this will be a primary discussion topic at our CCARC
Membership Meeting for June, which will be tomorrow evening at 7:30 at
the Cobb Island Day site.
Looking forward to seeing you there. It appears that the weather will be
ideal. Not too hot, not too cold, and definitely not as wet as it has
been in years gone by. I remember one year, Bob (KOW) and I were huddled
around a laptop and HF radio in the fetid and dank office area at 2:30am
(it was very warm and unbelievably wet). I had to take a trip to the
sandbox, but once I peeked my nose out the front door and saw a river
flowing inches away from the stoop, and rain falling in buckets, I
decided to hold it. That is when we got a bit punchy and had fun taking
pictures of Bob with an 800 meg mag mount stuck on his head, held in
place by the metal plate in his cranium (for the sake of the new guys,
JUST KIDDING). The bands were as so dead that we questioned whether or
not our coax had failed. But within an hour, PSK had started to come to
life, and we did, too. A great memory.
