Hello Everyone,
First of all I wanted to update everyone of the Charles County Fair situation. As of this writing, the Charles County Red Cross is still uncertain if they will have a booth and if so, where it will be. If it is within the confines of the fairgrounds attendees would once again have to pay their own admission fees. At this late date I think the most prudent course of action would to be to skip the fair this year. As I will be out of the area until Sept. 16th I would be unable to support the fair this year anyhow. IF there are members who feel differently about the possibility of manning the shared booth, please contact Mike (KA3GRW) Tackish for an update of the situation.
Now, let me remind everyone about the Doncaster 50-mile Endurance Race on Saturday, Sept. 21 and the Competitive Trail Rides on Sunday Sept. 22. Members who would like to support this event are asked to arrive around 5:30AM if you'd like the free breakfast. Shortly after sun-up we will be placed at various checkpoints along the trail and the competition will begin around 7:00AM.
As in years past participants are advised to bring the following:
A. Watch/clock or other timepiece.
B. Writing implements
C. Clipboard
D. Lawnchair or something else COMFORTABLE to sit on
E. Reading material if you're easily bored*
F. Cooler with drinks/water or munchies if you need them
G. Radio with spare batteries/battery packs
As always, everyone is encouraged to listen to the weather report and dress accordingly. Last year we baked in the sun on Saturday but enjoyed moderate temperatures on Sunday. (We've also been rained on in years past.)
*Last year N2OMC strung some wire antennas in the trees and worked some QRP during breaks in the competition.
Camping at the farm is available for those who would like to stay overnight. Remember that water is in short supply-no showers or car washes. This year as a special precaution, there will be NO SMOKING in the Doncaster State Forest.
Everyone who participates in this event seems to have an enjoyable time. We are fed well, the riders always seem to appreciate our presence and we always receive some token of appreciation when departing.
Contact me if you need directions or further information. We will use the W3BPT (146.85) repeater for talk-in and for ride support.
