Club Members
It's time to wake up!! The slate of nominations put forth by the
"President appointed nomination committee" is a sham. It gives the
appearance of being "wired" for certain people. Who ever heard of a
nominating committee nominating themselves?
What about the implied "conflict of interest" with a husband-wife team
being nominated for two officer positions in the club? Two foxes in the hen
house? What about the fact that W3TOM is an ARRL Official (MD-DC Section
manager), isn't that a conflict of interest? W3TOM recently became a Board
of Directors member for T-MARC. Those of us associated with the ARES/RACES
group, led by W3TOM, have seen time after time his absence at the monthly
eyeball meeting as well as Thursday night nets. The leadership qualities do
not appear to be there, raising the question, just how many offices can one
hold , and do them all effectively? What about the fact that the Vice
President nominee, KA3GRW, is the Charles County Emergency
Coordinator/Radio Officer and also recently became a T-MARC Board of
Directors member. What about the fact that KA3GRW resigned from the CCARC
presidency in September 2000, because of commitments to his children and
their extra activities. What has changed that he can devote time to the
club's management, the County and T-MARC? What about N2OMC, nominated for
Secretary, who has been Membership and Retention chairman for about five
months. When asked at the last club meeting how things were going with
membership and retention, he said he had not been able to do anything
because of other commitments. If N2OMC can not do the Membership and
Retention job, what is going to make him a good Secretary?
CCARC was founded as a club that supported all facets of Ham Radio. There
is a lot more to Ham Radio than ARES and RACES. W3TOM and KA3GRW are
driving this club into an ARES/Emergency Services Club. If you allow W3TOM
and KA3GRW to be elected to the CCARC Board of Directors, the Charles
County Amateur Radio Club will be on the road to being renamed the Charles
County ARES RACES Club (CCARC). If that's what you want, so be it.
Club elections in the past have been difficult, no one willingly runs or
accepts nomination to any office. It's like pulling hen's teeth every
election to get someone to run for an office. It's time for a change. I
would accept a nomination from the floor for the position of CCARC
President. If elected, I would work to make this the multi-facetted club
that it's founding document meant it to be. I have been licensed for over
50 years, been on the other end of the DX pile up, done more Field Days
than I care to remember, and have been an Elmer to quite a few Novices. I
am a founding member of the local VE testing group, own and operate the
first successful two meter repeater in Charles County and ready to try. I
have worked for the Department of Defense fo over 33 years and successfully
managed multi million dollar projects (more than one at a time). I believe
that I can manage this club with its small treasury, as successfully. This
is a Radio Club, not a Computer Club, not a Fortune 500 Industry, nor a
Fire House Battalion. This is supposed to be a fun hobby and a Club is not
supposed to be fashioned by people wearing blinders. It requires input not
only from its Board of Directors, but also its members.
Who wants to help me and be willing to serve in a board position? Now is
the time to step up and do something, or CCARC will die.
Please provide comments Pro or Con to me at [email protected]
