[CALV-AUXCOMM] Calvert AUXCOMM Monthly Meeting Update & Membership List Update

All,

We now have room reservations at the Harriet E Brown Community Center for the rest of 2023.  Meetings will remain on the third Wednesday at 7:00pm.  Dates and room numbers are at the bottom of this email.  Our February meeting will be at Harriet Brown instead of the EOC as initially planned.  Thanks to the efforts of our Calvert emergency management office, the room rental fees have been waived.

It's also time to update our AUXCOMM membership list.  Please note that if you are on this reflector and receiving this email, it doesn't mean you are necessarily a registered Calvert AUXCOMM member.   Looking at our web site, https://auxcomm.k3cal.org/ the following operators have login accounts.  Clearly some newer folks are missing and some listed here are inactive.

If you are not on the list and wish to join Calvert AUXCOMM, (and therefor ARES) please go to https://auxcomm.k3cal.org/forms/new-member-request/ and enter your info.  That's a lot easier for me than doing it for you.  If you no longer wish to be an AUXCOMM member, please let me know and I'll delete you but keep you on this email reflector unless you wish to drop that too. One other admin item.... I'm trying to update our RACES membership list.  If you are a RACES member, you may (should) have an old RACES badge from the county.  Unfortunately, the county stopped issuing those badges some time ago but we are re-addressing that issue. 

For those confused about ARES vs RACES, don't feel bad.  Take a look at http://www.arrl.org/ares-races-faq   From a volunteer point of view, you volunteer for ARES and are accepted by the ARRL EC (me).  If you volunteer for RACES, you are accepted by the local civil defense authorities, in our case Calvert Emergency Management. 

I need to hear back from everyone on a couple of things things:

1. Do you already have an old RACES badge and wish to continue as a RACES member (note: can be a ARES member without being a RACES member)

2. Do you wish to become a RACES member (currently in ARES but not RACES or currently not in either but wish to volunteer).

I need this info to update membership lists with the County (RACES) as well as our AUXCOMM (RACES and ARES)

One final note. from your EC.  As I see it, our biggest challenge here in Calvert for supporting emergency communications is PEOPLE, NOT EQUIPMENT.  We need to get new members and revitalize our current membership.  Let's make that our main goal for 2023.
