[CALV-AUXCOMM] Planning for the 10M Exercise on May 15th & Planning Net

Sounds good to me.  Looking forward to setting up a 10 meter dipole and a screwdriver antenna.  I doubt that I can participate in a 2 meter net.  I can listen but can't hit the repeater.  Oh, and I have a meeting that will have me busy.  Please send me any significant findings via email.  Thanks.

Subject: [CALV-AUXCOMM] Planning for the 10M Exercise on May 15th & Planning Net

All,

We're just 10 days away from our 10M SSB simplex experiment.  To date, I've received  responses from the following operators who would like to participate:

AB3LE ...  fixed op from home QTH

N3PPH  ...  portable/mobile op

KB3RAN ... portable/mobile op

K3UGA ...  portable/mobile op

KH6CUJ  ... portable op  ??

W3PQS ...  portable/mobile op

KB3SXB ...  fixed op from the Drum Point Community Center

If I missed someone, please let me know.

See the rough plans below.  I'D LIKE TO HAVE A PLANNING NET ON THE 146.985 REPEATER THIS WEDNESDAY EVENING, May 8th, AT 07:30 PM to discuss.

The plan is to spread the portable/mobile operators around the county.  Looking for your assistance in determining the actual locations.  This means having you do some recon prior to May 15th.  You will need to find a spot suitable for your antenna plans and hopefully in a location that doesn't draw too much attention.  I'm working on the basis of forgiveness rather than permission, but if you see a good spot and want to ask the owner for permission, feel free.  Bring your RACES badge if you have one.  I'm assuming your antenna choices are somewhat self-contained, perhaps using a mast held down by your vehicle to support a dipole, but not something that looks like a 18A field day op.    School parking lots are off limits.

Here's my initial suggestions.  The specific locations suggested below may or may not work out, but something in the general area is desired.

N3PPH  ....  American Chestnut Land Trust trail parking area off of Double Oak Rd

KB3RAN...  Jefferson Patterson Park

K3UGA ...    Sneade's Home Center upper parking lot or Mt Hope Community Center parking lot.

KH6CUJ ..    Bowen's Grocery parking lot  (I'll ask Gordon Bowen for his OK).

W3PQS ...    Dunkirk District Park

N3AE ...      Hallowing Point Park

During the actual exercise on the 15th, we will also use the 146.985 repeater for coordination.  Proposed starting time is 0900 departure from your QTH but with intent to be on the air (10M SSB  at 28.350MHz) by 10:30.  We'll run the comm test for an hour or less and then meet somewhere for lunch around 12:00.

Critical data needed from the event:

  1.  Your exact location (latitude/longitude)

  2.  Antenna type and height (include info on polarization....horz or vert or in-between; i.e. sloper)

  3.  Antenna compass orientation (for antennas with directivity)

  4.  RF Power used

  5.  Your ability to copy the other stations

Green = Good copy of the other station
Yellow = Difficult copy of the other station
Red = No copy of the other station

If the weather forecast the night before looks bad, I'll postpone the exercise to another date and notify everyone by email.

Thanks to all that have volunteered to participate.

OBTW ... the intent of this exercise to to see how well 10M SSB covers the county using a mix of portable, mobile and fixed stations.  Not interested in how you power your station.  Batteries, vehicle or AC mains....doesn't matter.
