Hurricane FLORENCE Update # 2
The National Weather Service Has Lowered the probability Of strike for our
Area here, However We must remain Diligent and continue to stay abreast of
the storm.
The following is a excerpt from Our EOC Division Chief Al Jeffery III as of
1640 13092018:
Notes from the Statewide Weather Call:
Hurricane Florence is slowing and turning more towards the west and the
forecasted track has the storm turning southwest inland and over the next
few days turn towards the north. Wind speeds are currently at 105mph and
the storm is moving at about 5mph.
We can expect rain and winds beginning Thursday night Friday morning and
receive 2" to 4" of rain through the weekend. Winds will pick up and gust
up to 30mph possibly through the weekend. we can expect to see higher than
normal tides over the next 3 ort 4 tide cycles of 2' to 4' above normal so
there could be some coastal flooding along the western shores of the
Chesapeake bay.
Once the storm begins to head north, Monday or Tuesday next week, we can
expect to receive additional rain which could be heavy at times and with
a 20% chance of receiving Tropical Storm winds of 39mph or higher.
We currently do not anticipate on activating the EOC or opening a Shelter
at this time. If conditions change to where we need to activate and open a
shelter we will send that info to our EOC reps.
We have Statewide weather calls scheduled through the weekend into next
week and I'll update all after those calls.
EM Staff will continue to monitor conditions.
