Separately, you will see a posting here and/or on other reflectors from
WB8SIW advising of a communications exercise involving the use of NTS
this coming Wednesday and Thursday, June 8th and 9th, to provide
communications between FEMA’s NRCC and a simulated disaster region in
the Pacific Northwest.
Based on an e-mail exchange with WB8SIW, I don’t believe we on EAN are
being asked to do anything different from what we always do, other than
to avoid the use of 3563 and 3566 and their neighboring frequencies
during the exercise periods. Those are not frequencies that we would
normally be using as part of our EAN/C4 sessions, but that may well be
useful information for any subscribers to this reflector who participate
in Section or Region nets that normally operate on or near those
frequencies.
Two articles that provide further background leading up to this exercise
can be found at these links:

Beyond that, my only comment is this:
To the best of my knowledge, NTS is the only part of ARRL’s emergency
preparedness field structure that practices 7 days a week, 365 days a
year (in most of the System, at least). Whether or not any additional
guidance or direction is received during the exercise periods, we who
are part of NTS in the Eastern Area should simply strive to do the best
job we can — just as we should be doing that every other night of the
year. Especially on EAN/C4, that means:
* Be Prepared! Make sure your antennas are still up, your signals
are strong, and your sending is accurate.
* Bring your best receiving “ears” when you QNI EAN as an RX or
BOTH rep.
* If you’re an assigned rep, make sure you’ve cleared the decks of
other commitments to be sure you won’t miss your scheduled assignment(s)
— or have arranged for a qualified backup to relieve you.
* If you’re an NCS, make sure you and your log sheets are prepared
to handle larger than usual traffic volumes and numbers of reps and/or
non-reps QNIing on the dates of the exercise.
