Hello all
I was researching something else and came across some interesting
statistics about words per minute. Understanding these numbers may
help station operators who are passing messages during communication
events.
People comfortably speak and hear at 150 to 160 words per minute
People can read at 250 words per minute and proof read at 180 words per minute
People comfortably write at 22 words per minute while copying
People who are professional typist can type at 50 to 80 words per minute
People who two finger type average 27 words per minute when copying.
Ham radio operators average 30 words per minute with Morse Code
I found it interesting that none of the means for translating speech to paper
are faster than the speed that people can talk at
This information leaves me with two observations:
A message transmitted by voice can be sent and received faster than any
other means of transmission.
If a message is to be copied to paper the Transmitting station needs to
remember that he/she is talking:
6 times faster than the Receiving station can write and ...
2 to 3 times faster than the Receiving station can type.
