That’s kind of what I suspected.  However, I would really like to have someone with another Valiant tell me if theirs behaves differently.  I will tear into it, if necessary.  I spent much time getting it working in the first place.  It was built as a kit and never worked and was, subsequently, abandoned for several decades.  Now, I am old and lazy.  If this is normal behavior, I will let sleeping dogs lie.  If this is not normal, I will take a deep breath and tear into it.
