    An afterthought: The meter has two batteries in it for the ohm 
meter. These are just regular Size D flashlight cells. I would check 
them to make sure there are no leaky cells in the meter. Old acid cells 
and new alkaline cells take different cleaning. To clean the old ones 
use a paste of bicarbonate of soda and rinse well. New cell leakage can 
usually be cleaned with soap and water. Liquid dishwashing detergent 
usually works. If you are lucky there will be no cells in it or they 
will be intact.
