     FWIW if you look at the schematic for the Ranger 1 you will find 
the keying line goes to the bias rectifier. The schematic is marked -56 
volts at this point so you are correct about the voltage at the keying 
terminal. The voltage goes through a high resistance so not much current 
can be drawn.
    There is a fair amount of information on BAMA about the Ranger (both 
versions) but the only thing I see about keying is to use a filter at 
the key to prevent local key clicks. An external relay is certainly an 
option but make sure your keyer needs it. My ancient Hallicrafters HA-4 
has a built-in relay so would work fine but some newer ones may not take 
the voltage. The instructions for the keyer should tell you. I would 
avoid extra complication (relay and power supply for it) if possible.
    The 75A-2 is a very good receiver.
