Normal telephone ringing current is 90V at 20Hz. However, telephones
sometimes are arranged for polarized ringing or other frequencies for
use on partly lines. Look at the ringer and see if it has a bias spring.
If it does it will favor ringing in one direction. I don't remember all
the details. Hang a scope across the line and see what sort of ringing
current you are getting.
