Subject: Re: [Boatanchors] National Cosmic Blue Receivers
I've had both the NC-270 and the NC-155. Still have the 155
Here's the rundown. The 155 replaced the 270 it was enconmized but also improved. Negitives of the 155. The "bad" All one shade of blue, not as pretty as the three tone 270.
The cabinet is solid not preferated, probably cost saving. No glow in the dark effect
The calibrator is an option not built in.
The notch filter was removed but it was not very effective on the 270 anyway
The dial slide calibration method was simplfied not as elegant as the 270
The S meter is a edgewise type mounted vertical. My brain prefers the flat panel meter of the 270
The "good"
The AVC is now active in SSB and CW, No need to ride the RF and AF controls as on the NC-270 and the S meter now functions on both modes ! Major improvement
The main tuning gear reduction increased from 40 to 1 on the 270 to 60 to 1 on the 155, Much easier to tune CW/SSB.
The dail markings are finer and easier to read.
The "ugly" Just not as good looking as the pretty 270
Also have the general coverage NC-190 not bad at all but still not a NC-400 my fav National
