Hi Bob, I took at look at your NC-270 and Ameco TX-86. Yes that pair is sort of an "odd couple" for sure. Fun to hear that you use them regularly on the air. I've never seen either radio in person in my 56 years of hamming and hamfests.
Personally, I think the Cosmic Blue and front panel styling is stunning! In your experience, does the radio performance live up to the great styling? Darn, I can feel myself getting all wound up about the 270... hi hi

I kinda felt the same as Pete, neat looking on a SWL'ers bedroom table but not so much in the usual monochromatic radio color scheme. Then I got an Ameco TX-86 which is copper-colored and decided they'd make a nice combination since it didn't really fit in either. I use them often on the local AM nets.
