Hi Dale, Thanks for your info. Yes, I've read there was a Cosmic Blue 155 and 190 besides the 270. I will ping Dave WA6VVL for some information. I see Rich KB8TAD discusses the hot transformer issue, and provides supporting measurements, as well as a reference to Dave's transformer experiments.
I have all ER issues so I will look back and dig that one out.
Nice nostalgic story about you and your buddies at your friends lake side hamshack with a Ranger and 270, back when you were kids.
Gads, the more I look at this 270, the more I want to buy one. I've sold most of my BA radios except for what's seen on my QRZ page, and a couple in the back room that are going to be sold once I write an article on it. This 270 could be a fun radio to pair up with my Viking Ranger!

Hi Scott,
I believe there was also the NC-140 and NC190 in the cosmic blue.
Send an email to Dave, WA6VVL. He is the 270 expert. I do recall that the transformer runs very hot and the selectivity mechanism is often "out of kilter" and not easy to realign. His articles are in ER magazine, and often times back issues are available from the editor- N0DMS.
I have owned the 190 and 270 and enjoyed both. The son of a wealthy dentist had one with a Ranger as his first station. His shack was a converted boathouse with all windows looking out on Keuka Lake in NY. Within 1 mile along Keuka's shore were three teenage hams. We always gathered at Joab's shack/boathouse. Pete and I were in awe and the cosmic blue has been stuck in my head ever since.
